Not much to say other than we just aren’t good enough to beat LSU right now, so let’s jump right in.

The Good

For the second week in a row, Devrin Young makes this list. After all the return game struggles in 2010, it’s nice to see a real weapon back there returning kicks.  I am legitimately excited every time he drops back to return a kick now. He has take-it-to-the-house potential.   In any given year rushing for 111 yards as a team wouldn’t be worth mentioning. However, given how bad we’ve run the ball so far, and the fact that LSU is really good at stopping the run. This deserves a spot. LSU was giving up 64 yards per game. Tauren Poole had 80 himself.

The Bad.

Defensively in the first half, UT was pretty good. We just flat out got worn down in the second. LSU didn’t do anything exciting or complicated, they just turned around and gave the ball to Spencer Ware, or Jordan Jefferson kept it himself. What is most bad about this, is that UT doesn’t have enough athletes to keep up with a team like this. You have to be able to rotate defenders, and continue to keep up pressure. Tennessee didn’t have enough people to get LSU off the field.  Offensively, the passing game was anemic. I didn’t expect a lot from Matt Simms, but 6-20 with 2 picks is pretty bad. Da’Rick Rogers dropped a ball, and Zach Rogers dropped at least 2, but 9-20 isn’t anything to write home about either.

The Ugly

It probably would not have made a difference, but there were a couple of calls that went against UT, that really might have helped. Marlin Lane got his facemask ripped and it wasn’t called that would’ve been 15 extra yards in the first quarter, there was also a no-call PI may have extended a drive.  Also, and this was the right call, but it symbolized UT’s day, Curt Maggitt blocked a field goal only to have it called back for an LSU delay of game. That could’ve changed some momentum.
