We made the predictions, now we have to face them. How did Mike and I do in week two?

Tennessee vs. Georgia State in Knoxville

What Mike Said:

Not much to see here. This game is over almost before it begins. The defense looks better, but it should. It’s Georgia State.

Tennessee 56 – Georgia State 13

2-0

What Steve Said:

The only criticism of the Vols in this game will be asking why they left Bray in so long. Vols barely break a sweat.

Tennessee 63 – Georgia State 17

2-0

The Reality:

The game was over at halftime. The UT defense “struggled” early. Tyler Bray does what Tyler Bray does against bad and mediocre teams. 18-20 310 yards 4 TDs.

In Mike’s Defense:

Holy Moly! That might be my best prediction ever. 5 points off, and Mike Palardy missed an XP and an easy field goal. That would’ve made the score 55-13. My best prediction to date!

In Steve’s Defense:

Not bad at all. I gave the Vols twelve more points than they would score, and I credited the Panthers with a TD that should have been a FG. Twelve points is kind of a big difference ordinarily, but the Vols could have named their score, so once you top a five TD difference, what’s a dozen points between friends?

Alabama vs. Western Kentucky in Tuscaloosa

What Steve Said:

With a trip to Arkansas looming on the horizon, the Tide play as boring as possible on offense. Doesn’t matter. The Hilltoppers are unable to move the ball at all and even the Tide fans get bored by halftime.
Alabama 49- Western Kentucky 7
2-0

What Mike Said:

Hmmm, not much to see here, this game is over approximately three minutes after kickoff when Alabama scores its first touchdown.
Alabama 62 – WKU 7
2-0

The Reality:

No one is as critical of Alabama as the team has been of this performance, which was clearly not up to the standard Coach Saban’s Tide teams strive for. Though they would get a five touchdown shutout, the offense was inconsistent at best, surrendering an embarrassing six sacks that could be credited to both poor line play and a QB who wasn’t really paying attention to how long he had the ball. The defense managed four turnovers, but they needed one of them to keep the scoreboard clean.

In Steve’s Defense:

Must be something about week two. Once again I over-credited the home team a couple scores and didn’t give the defense quite enough credit. I stand at 4-0 on the season at this point.

In Mike’s Defense:

I got the margin of victory fairly close. I gave the Hilltoppers 7 points they didn’t get.
